Former This Morning star fuels speculation of ITV return
Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley might want to watch their backs as a former This Morning star has hinted she could be after their thrones.
After months of speculation over who could replace Phillip Schofield, 61, and Holly Willoughby, 43, the two presenters were announced as permanent hosts of the ITV show earlier this year.
However, ex-This Morning presenter Fern Britton, 66, has fuelled rumours of her return after previously helming the daytime programme from 2002 until 2009.
The broadcaster, who recently reached the final of Celebrity Big Brother, has liked a series of tweets calling for her This Morning comeback.
Fans such as Chris Lewin on X demanded she was 'back on the sofa on a permanent basis' after she appeared on the show yesterday to talk about her time in the Big Brother house.
Fern also liked Newton Bud's tweet. They wrote: 'You need to bring back @Fern_Britton now !! Love her xx. #ThisMorning.'
Similarly, Leo Andrew got Fern's thumbs up after asking: '@thismorning so fabulous to see Fern back on the show…… holiday stand in….? Hope so!!'
While on Celebrity Big Brother, Fern was asked for her opinion of the new-look This Morning.
'I got off the train and it's way over the horizon now so I honestly don't know,' she said.
However, Fern praised Cat and Ben for ushering in a 'new era' for the show.
The former presenter admitted it was 'tricky at times' to work on This Morning, but added she feels it is an institution which 'rocks but it gets back together again'.
Fern hosted theITVbreakfast programme alongside Phillip and was replaced by Willoughby when she left abruptly in 2009.
She failed to mention Phillip when quitting the show and he later claimed in his autobiography they had an intense fallout which led to their relationship 'turning sour'.
Phillip quit the show in May after he admitted to lying about having an affair with a younger colleague on the show.
Months later Holly left the show after an alleged kidnap plot against her was revealed. She returned to the channel to host Dancing On Ice in January.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
