FBI analyzing DNA recovered from Nancy Guthrie's home: Sources

The FBI recently received and is now analyzing potentially critical DNA recovered months ago from theTucson, Arizona, home of Nancy Guthrie,sources familiar with the investigation told ABC News.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of"Today" show host Savannah Guthrie,was abducted from her home early on Feb. 1.

A private Florida lab that works with the Pima County Sheriff's Department sent the sample to the FBI in recent weeks, the sources said. The FBI is now using new technology to conduct advanced analysis on the DNA sample to see if it can lead to Nancy Guthrie's kidnapper, according to the sources.

An FBI official confirmed the bureau was recently sent a hair sample that was collected in February.

"There is no new DNA evidence in the Nancy Guthrie case. The FBI requested this material over two months ago," an FBI official said. "The Pima County Sheriff's Office sent it to a private lab in Florida. Eleven weeks later, that lab has now transferred an original hair sample to the FBI Laboratory for testing. We remain fully committed to this investigation."

The Pima County Sheriff's Department has previously described the DNA recovered from Nancy Guthrie's home as a sample that came from more than one person and therefore needed to be untangled.

Savannah Guthrie questions if mom's abduction is because of her: 'Too much to bear'

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently told a Neighborhood Watch group that it could take six more months to separate the strands and isolate what investigators need.

The sheriff also said as many as five other labs around the country are working on the Guthrie case. It was not immediately clear which ones, what their roles are or whether there are additional DNA samples that are potentially relevant.

About two dozen Pima County and FBI investigators are still actively working the Guthrie case. After investigators released key evidence, likeimages from Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera, early on, seemingly little progress has been made on her whereabouts or the person or people who abducted her.

Last month,Savannah Guthrie spoke out in her first interview, telling her friend and former co-host Hoda Kotb that it's "too much to bear to think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me."

"I'm so sorry, Mommy, I'm so sorry," Savannah Guthrie said.

And to her family, she apologized through tears, "If it is me, I'm so sorry."

But she added, "We still don't know ... Honestly, we don't know anything."

Savannah Guthrie said her family "cannot be at peace" without answers.

"Someone can do the right thing," she said.

In an interview with theHerald Sun, the former hot spot boss recalled Rose and Perry arriving together at Melbourne's Spice Market, along with a few others. The group was roped off in their own area, so the unnamed man was unaware of any assault, but he shared what problems did arise.

“It was a security nightmare because there were 600 people there and Katy kept coming out and dancing with everybody and going right in the middle of the mosh pit," he said. “[Rose and Perry] were drunk; they weren’t paralytic or anything, just like any other person drinking at a nightclub."

Because they were public figures, the man said that "we didn’t want someone taking photos of them drunk like that," and so they eventually escorted the women out of a back fire exit and put them in car together, believing they were then off to a hotel.

On Sunday,Rose wrote on Threadsthat Perry sexually assaulted her that night. "She saw me 'resting' on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her," Rose alleged. "It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes."

In response, a representative for Perry toldEntertainment Weekly, "The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies. Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."

Since speaking out on social media, Rose has gone tothe authorities. In a statement obtained Wednesday byEW, a representative for the Victoria Police confirmed that "Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical [alleged] sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010."

The statement added that "police have been told the [alleged] incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s [central business district]," and that the "the investigation remains ongoing."

Prince Harryshowed off his paternal side during a sweet moment on his andMeghan Markle’s visit to Australia.

During the couple’s fourth and final day of their trip on Friday, April 17 (local time), the couplesailed around Sydney Harbor alongside Invictus Australia, the Australian branch of Prince Harry'sInvictus Games.

And while meeting with Invictus Australia veteran Joel Vanderzwan and his family ahead of their boat trip, the Duke of Sussex, 41, shared a dance with Vanderzwan’s 4-year-old daughter Charlotte.

The moment came after Vanderzwan’s wife, Alexandra, mentioned to the couple that Charlotte was “very good at twirling,” with Harry then happily giving the little girl a spin.

In anInstagram clipposted by Invictus Australia of the meeting, Meghan, 44, noted that her husband was also “very good at twirling,” with Harry then taking Charlotte’s hands and spinning her round.

“Very good,” a smiling Harry said as he began to clap alongside his wife.

“Good job, that’s the perfect dress to twirl in,” added Meghan, who gave the little girl a hug and steadied her after her spin.

Vanderzwan, a former able seaman marine technician in the Royal Australian Navy, and his wife were also joined by their 9-month-old twins William and Harrison.

The family presented Harry and Meghan with a pair of playful flip-flops each, with the footwear reading, “G’Day Megs” and ‘G’Day Harry.”

The gifts made the couple giggle, with Harry noting, “Wow look at this. Normally it’s Budgy Smugglers!” referencing the speedo-style swimwear.

“Well, we’ve seen you in them already so I thought, I’m sending you some thongs [the Australian word for flip-flops],” said Vanderzwan, before thanking the couple for visiting Australia.

“I love this, thank you so much,” added Meghan.

Harry and Meghan then boarded a dinghy that ferried them to a sailing boat, where more Invictus Australia veterans were waiting.

On the same day as their sail around Sydney Harbor, the couple also visited Bondi Beach and met with volunteer first responders from the Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club, who played a pivotal role in protecting beachgoers and saving lives during theterrorist attack against the Jewish communityin December 2025.

They also met with representatives from the Sydney Jewish Museum, which is preparing to open an exhibition on the Dec. 14 attack. The exhibition will feature messages and illustrations honoring those who were hailed as heroes for helping others during the attack, with Harry and Meghan viewing some of the pieces.

The couple’s four-day visit has included several public and private events in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, April 16 (Reuters) - Nearly 6 million people in Haiti are expected to face acute food insecurity in the coming ‌months, underscoring how gang violence, mass displacement and economic strain are ‌keeping the Caribbean nation in the grip of a deepening humanitarian crisis, according to ​a new assessment published on Thursday.

Haiti conflict drives thousands toward famine

About 5.8 million Haitians - more than half the population - are facing acute food insecurity, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said, with more than 1.8 million of them in the emergency phase ‌and in urgent need ⁠of food assistance.

The crisis has been fueled by worsening insecurity, economic shocks and repeated disruption to markets and ⁠farming, the report said. Armed groups have expanded their control in parts of the country, while more than 1.4 million people have been displaced, straining ​food supplies ​and pushing vulnerable households deeper into ​hunger.

The latest IPC projection is ‌slightly below an earlier estimate of 5.91 million people facing acute food insecurity, and the number in the emergency category has also edged lower, improvements that agencies have linked in part to food assistance, easing inflation and better harvest conditions in some areas.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has ‌said sustained food aid helped about 200,000 ​Haitians move out of emergency levels of ​hunger since last year, ​yet aid groups said some recent gains were fragile.

"Fighting ‌hunger is essential to restoring stability ​in Haiti. We cannot ​build peace if families cannot feed their children," WFP Haiti Country Director Wanja Kaaria said in a statement.

Humanitarian agencies warned conditions ​could deteriorate again without ‌more support, citing the spike in global fuel prices caused ​by the Iran war which has further strained transportation and ​agricultural production costs.

Why are some ships going through the Strait of Hormuz during a blockade?

The United States’ blockade of Iranian ports has been “fully implemented” and put a halt to most of Tehran’s economic activity in just a day and a half, the head of US Central Command said Wednesday.

“An estimated 90% of Iran’s economy is fueled by international trade by sea. In less than 36 hours since the blockade was implemented, US forces have completely halted all economic trade going into and out of Iran by sea,” Adm. Brad Cooper said in a statement on social media.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said earlier no vessels have breached the blockade since its implementation.

At the same time, reports are emerging of some commercial traffic transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic chokepoint between Iran and Oman through which 20% of the world’s oil exports and 80% of Iran’s oil exports travel.

But that commercial traffic doesn’t automatically negate Cooper’s claim.

Two key points:

• As stated by CENTCOM, the blockade covers all Iranian ports, both inside and outside of the Strait of Hormuz, but not the strait itself. Traffic not related to Iran may cross. Blockading an international waterway is illegal under maritime law.

• In enforcing the blockade, US forces can interdict ships carrying Iran-linked cargo tens of thousands of miles away. A commercial ship can be targeted in international waters long after it leaves the strait.

Analysts say modern technology allows blockade enforcement at great distances.

“(The US doesn’t) have to put ships in the Persian Gulf to blockade Iran,” said Carl Schuster, a former US Navy captain.

He noted the 12+ ships CENTCOM says are on blockade duty. Most, if not all, of them are outside the strait. They can carry sophisticated tracking and reconnaissance gear linked to air and space systems.

And at least in the early days of this blockade, oil tankers aren’t going to get far. A fully laden tanker may travel at less than 20 mph. That’s not much faster than the speed of an average bicycle rider.

The US Navy also has the size and scope to pursue any ship getting outside of the Persian Gulf for weeks, anywhere in the world.

“The US blockade on Iranian ports does not have a defined geographic boundary, and the United States can interdict vessels almost anywhere in international waters until they arrive at their final port,” the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said Tuesday.

Earlier this year, as Washington put pressure on the regime of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, US forces seized a Venezuelan tanker in the Indian Ocean, thousands of miles from its originating port.

“Be careful not to interpret (blockade) too literally as a physical interdiction of the strait itself,” said Bjorn Hojgaard, CEO of ship management company Anglo-Eastern.

The ISW also noted the US did grant exceptions from its blockade to humanitarian shipments, and allowed an undetermined “grace period” for neutral ships in Iranian ports to leave.

Six ships that may have been attempting to beat the blockade were stopped, and turned around at the direction of US forces, according to a CENTCOM statement Tuesday.

Meanwhile, CENTCOM said it was employing more than a dozen warships, over 100 aircraft and more than 10,000 personnel in blockade enforcement.

Schuster, the former Navy captain, gave a breakdown of roles for the vessels CENTCOM said were part of the blockade.

• Aircraft carrier: Carries surveillance aircraft and fighter jets for combat air patrols. Also houses a significant command, control, communication and intelligence center.

• Amphibious assault ship: Also conveys surveillance and attack aircraft, another command, control, communication and intelligence center, and hundreds of Marines who can board commercial ships.

• Amphibious transport dock: Will carry more Marines, helicopters, and Osprey transports.

• Dock landing ship: Comes with heavy-lift helicopters and more Marines.

• Destroyers: “They have the sensors, speed and weaponry to detect, intercept and if need be, board, seize and take the offending ship elsewhere,” Schuster said.

• Littoral combat ship: These can conduct mine countermeasures and tracking.

Schuster said the makeup of that force, much of it operating well back from the Strait of Hormuz and the Iranian coast, leaves Tehran with limited options to respond.

The small attack boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy are designed for operating in the close confines of the strait and the Persian Gulf, not the open waters of the Arabian Sea and beyond.

Iran likely retains some ballistic and anti-ship cruise missiles despite weeks of US aerial bombardment of the country. But even when they had those in larger numbers, none are known to have hit any US warships operating in the Arabian Sea.

US President Donald Trump said last month that Iran had fired 101 missiles at the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, but all of them were taken out.

The cult-classic space opera comedy, set in a distant galaxy, parodies the "Star Wars" trilogy and other popular sci-fi franchises, including "Star Trek," "2001: A Space Odyssey" and more.

News of a new "Spaceballs" film first broke in June 2025 with a video featuring Brooks talking about the new project.

'Spaceballs 2' officially in production as Rick Moranis returns to acting

Brooks appeared in another pre-tapedvideoshown at CinemaCon, in which he announced the title of the upcoming "Spaceballs" film.

"Everywhere I go, people say, 'Mel, Mel! Where is the new "Spaceballs?" When are you going to make the new "Spaceballs?"'" Brooks said in the video. "'When are you gonna make the new one?!'"

He continued, "Well, we did it. And the title is 'Spaceballs: The New One.' It's just like the old one, but it's newer. That's why it's called 'The New One.' There you have it. I'll see you at the movies, and may the Schwartz be with you."

A logline for the film, included in a press release, states that "plot details are being kept under lock, key, and an industrial-strength Schwartz shield."

Keke Palmer and Anthony Carrigan will also star in the upcoming film.

"Spaceballs: The New One" will arrive in theaters on April 23, 2027.

Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of the late President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy, renewed his criticism of the FX seriesLove Storyin a new interview released this week. Schlossberg was careful to distinguish between the people who made the show and its audience. He added that no one in the Kennedy family was consulted during production and urged viewers to approach the series critically. “I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind, and that’s a capital ‘F’ for fiction,” he said. Speaking about his uncle, Schlossberg said, “He was a smart, attractive person who cared about politics. It’s not surprising that people, once they remember who he was, want to dress like him and be like him.”

Schlossberg also objected to the show’s portrayal of his parents, Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, describing them as “the two nicest, most dignified, private people in the whole world who do nothing but help others.” He took particular issue with his father’s depiction. “They had my dad dressed up in some plaid outfit," he said. “My dad’s the most stylish guy I’ve ever met.”

Conservative activist Riley Gaines condemns AI image

Among the critics of the image Trump shared wasRiley Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer and conservative activist who has campaigned for the exclusion of transgender women competing in women’s sports.

In an April 13X post,Gaines said she couldn’t understand why Trump would post the image, saying, "A little humility would serve him well," and "God shall not be mocked."

She later praised Trump for removing the post, adding, "Of course, I'll continue to support him and the America First agenda. At the end of the day, I do nothing for the approval of man. As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’strip of Australia continues, the Duke of Sussex gave a nearly 20-minute long address at a conference in Melbourne.

At the InterEdge Summit event, Prince Harry delivered the keynote address andspoke aboutmental health and grief. “When I was invited to speak at this summit, I wasn’t sure whether I was expected to speak as someone who, despite everything, has their shit together. Or as someone who, despite what it may look like, actually doesn’t have his shit together,” Harry said. “But I was struck by something quite simple — that while my experiences may be unusual, the feelings that come with them are not.”

He spoke about the loss of his mother,Princess Diana, who died after a car crash in Paris in August 1997. “In my experience, loss is disorienting at any age. Grief does not disappear because we ignore it. Experiencing that as a kid while in a goldfish bowl under constant surveillance, yes, that will have its challenges. And without purpose, it can break you,” he said.

Harry continued, “There have been many times when I’ve felt overwhelmed. Times when I’ve felt lost, betrayed, or completely powerless. Times when the pressure—externally and internally—felt constant. And times when, despite everything going on, I still had to show up pretending everything was okay, so as not to let anyone down. For many years I was numb to it, and perhaps that was easier then, but I also didn’t yet have the tools to deal with it.”

Following the address, he was in conversation with Australian business leader Brendan Nelson, and expanded further on his comments about his late mother. As he struggled with her death, he told Nelson, he rejected his royal role.

“I was like, ‘I don’t want this job. I don’t want this role—wherever this is headed, I don’t like it,’” Harry said. “It killed my mum and I was very much against it, and I stuck my head in the sand for years and years. Ken Jenningsis getting candid about his loss onJeopardy!in 2004, after he won74 straight gamesand amassed $2.5 million. (He still holds the record for the longest winning streak, but eventually lost to Nancy Zerg after getting the answer wrong in Final Jeopardy during his 75th show.)

On April 14, on theInside Jeopardy!Podcast, hosted by the show's executive producerSarah Whitcomb-Foss, Foss shared a video of a recent Q&A that Jennings did prior to a recent show taping, where a fan asked him about the loss.

“This question has been haunting me for 20 years. Did you really not know the answer to the last Final Jeopardy question on your last episode?” the audience member asked.

The answer was no, Jennings didnotlose on purpose.

"For 20 years, this gentleman has been thinking I took a dive," Jennings said to laughter.

Jennings continued, “Haveyouever willingly quit a job where you were making $70,000 an hour?”

The question that Jennings lost on, in the “Business & Industry” category was: “Most of this firm’s 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work for 4 months of the year.”

Jennings wrote, “What is FedEx?” The correct answer was "What is H&R Block?"

He says fans still come up to him and ask him about finally losing after 74 games, saying,  "I think people who ask me this question usually just want to saytheyknew it was H&R Block," he said jokingly.

“It turned out it was a question about H&R Block, a tax prep company. I always did my own taxes,” Jennings continued. “No, but I think I could have thought about that one all day, and I would not have figured out that was H&R Block.”

"That's how these long runs go — they always seem inevitable until a few things happen. And then suddenly they're not so inevitable anymore," he said of the streak eventually ending.

Jennings first took over hosting duties in 2021, afterAlex Trebeksigned off following 40 years following a Jan 8. show that had been pre-taped and ran after Trebek's Nov. 8death from pancreatic cancer, at age 80.

"I understand better than anybody that these are very big shoes to fill," Jennings told PEOPLE at the time. "I expect people to be a little discontented when they see me. I'm right there with them. The only thing I can do is to try doing the job the best I can.”

He added, "I grew up watching Alex, and he did that job perfectly. But I also knew that it was a hard job from watching him — he just did it so effortlessly."

In 2018, Trebek told PEOPLE that Jennings had been one of his favorite contestants ever.

“When Ken finally lost after 74 games, that was a sad moment for me,” Trebek said at the time. “I shed a tear, just because this marvelous streak had suddenly come to an end. And it’ll never be matched. Nobody will do it. That was the perfect wave.”

Martha Stewart says Cate Blanchett is set to star as the lifestyle guru in an upcoming biopic.

The lifestyle guru broke the casting news, seemingly inadvertently, on Tuesday evening as she walked the red carpet at the New York premiere ofBrunello: The Gracious Visionary, a documentary about Italian fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli.

Asked by aVarietyreporter if she would ever want someone to play her on the big screen, Stewart replied, “I hope so… I’ve been hearing rumors.”

Stewart then went on to spill the tea on what she knows so far. “I think there’s something in the works right now with… Cate Blanchett,” she teased, raising an approving eyebrow, “calledGood Thing.”

Varietysubsequently reported Blanchett’s casting and confirmed Janicza Bravo (2020’sZola) will direct the biopic. A representative for the actress did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Good Thing— a reference to herMartha Stewart Livingcatchphrase, “It’s a good thing” — wouldn’t be the first time the entrepreneur’s life story was told onscreen. In 2024, she was the willing subject ofMartha, a Netflix documentary that she publiclycriticized.

"I love the first half of the documentary," she admitted to theNew York Times.

The second half, however, focused too much on her 2003 indictment for insider trading, subsequent conviction, and five months in federal prison.

"The trial and the actual incarceration was less than two years out of an 83-year life,” Stewart said in 2024.

Other gripes were the exclusion of her “utterly fantastic” grandchildren and “my love of travel.” Stewart was particularly annoyed thatMartha’s director, R.J. Cutler, missed much of the “fun” aspects of her life.

“R.J. didn’t get any of that in the movie,” she told theNYT.

But the worst part was the ending.

"Those last scenes with me looking like a lonely old lady walking hunched over in the garden? Boy, I told him to get rid of those," Stewart said of Cutler. "And he refused. Ihatethose last scenes. Hate them.”

A “Saturday Night Live” impression ofJack Harlowwas so spot on that even his own aunt thought it was actually him.

The rapper revealed in anInstagram storyon April 13 that a relative mistook “SNL” cast member Ben Marshall for Harlow during an April 11 “Weekend Update” sketch that poked fun at backlash over comments he made about his latest album.

During the segment, “Weekend Update” co‑anchor Michael Che and Marshall, who portrayed Harlow, joked about criticism tied to the release of the rapper’s fourth studio album, "Monica." Specifically, a comment he made to The New York Times about his music getting "Blacker."

“White rapper Jack Harlow recently made headlines for describing the sound of his new album by saying, ‘I got Blacker,’” Che said. “Here to explain himself is Jack Harlow.”

Marshall’s version of Harlow then struggled to talk his way out of the controversy, repeatedly digging himself deeper over the course of the bit. TheKentucky-born rapperdropped the surprise album on March 13, which coincided with his 28th birthday.

Speaking withthe Times on release day, Harlow said he had reached a moment of reflection, explaining that he had “[got] to a point where as much as you’re trying to find your voice, you’re also hoping to escape yourself.”

Jack Harlow's aunt was 'proud' after 'SNL' appearance

Harlow said his aunt later texted him to say she was proud of him for going on “Saturday Night Live” and “addressing everything.”

“My aunt that I am related to actually thought that was me,” Harlow said in a now‑expired Instagram story.

While Harlow did not appear on “SNL” this past weekend, he has been featured on the late‑night sketch show before. According to NBC, the rapper made his musical guest debut in March 2021 and returned in October 2022 to pull double duty as host and musical guest.
