BBC Radio 2 went off air this morning throughout Vernon Kay's present, forcing the station to make use of its emergency tape of combined music.
The presenter, 49, was in the middle of a call-in with a listener enjoying his common Ten to the Prime quiz when all the things out of the blue minimize off at 10:33am, just over halfway via his morning slot, which he inherited from Ken Bruce last May.
After approximately 26 seconds of silence, Miley Cyrus' hit music Flowers began enjoying, adopted by the songs Shackles (Praise You) by Mary Mary and S Club 7's Reach, interrupted solely by a generic Radio 2 jingle.
Coming back on air roughly 11 minutes later, Vernon joked: 'Right, properly that's thrilling, isn't it?'
He then went on to elucidate what had occurred, admitting to his viewers: 'Principally, the system wanted a reboot, that's what occurred. We had a spinny rainbow wheel – that's what it's at Maida Vale [Studios] – the whole lot simply crashed. Actually crashed!'
Giving more perception into the panic, he continued: 'We've a machine where we play all of the music off – that's gone kaput. That's obtained warning indicators flashing in entrance of me, so I don't know if it's overheated or if it's just having a day, missed its medicine? It's gone kaput, it's had enough, it's leaned over and stated, "You recognize what, I'm packing in, behave yourselves, I'm not having anymore".'
Vernon revealed that the songs that had performed for over 10 minutes had been from the station's 'emergency tape', which kicked in.
'So, you get a remix of tunes, therefore why all the things was back-to-back and a generic woman was going "That is BBC Radio 2".'
He then gave a glimpse into what was happening in the studio following a reboot, saying they have been going to attempt to play all of the music and jingles deliberate 'off a unique system'.
'Now if it doesn't work, bear with us, as a result of we've acquired a couple of individuals milling round making an attempt to press alt, J, delete and see what happens…'
Fortunately, Vernon was off once more to continue his broadcast uninterrupted after the music that he had selected to play started and not using a hitch, eliciting a 'growth!' from the star.
Later, after messages had started pouring in, he thanked listeners for getting in touch after 'the blip'.
'Nice to know you care,' he quipped, earlier than including: 'It's all good, we're now back to a simmer – it was just a little bit of a boil – it's alright, we're simply simmering now.'
Vernon continued: 'We've rebooted – properly, I'll be trustworthy with you – we've tried, however it's not having any of it. Oh no, the system has stated, "I ain't enjoying anymore".
Referencing the headquarters of the BBC, he then joked: 'Have you learnt what it is? It's because we're not at Broadcasting Home. It's like, "Ah, we'll make you get there quicker, we'll simply flip all the things off" – and that's what happened!'
Listeners shared their confusion on-line over what had happened, with Matt Partitions admitting: 'I was shouting at Alexa because I assumed she'd turned herself off.'
'Gosh it sounds… like it fell off air,' noticed listener Jack.
'I assumed a tape was meant to kick in really shortly,' commented Sian Aitken in response to a clip of the difficulty posted on X by journalist Scott Bryan.
Fan Catherine Poole added: 'I was listening to 10 to the top in the automotive outdoors my house, thought, oh, I'll go inside and take heed to the remaining…no ten to the highest, simply Miley Cyrus!'
