When the bride suggested taking her mom out shopping to pick out a new dress, she insisted on wearing the one she already owns
A bride was dismayed when she found out what her mother plans to wear to her upcoming wedding.
She shared the dilemma in a post on Reddit's "Wedding Shaming" forum, beginning by explaining that while her mom has been very supportive of her wedding, she is set on wearing a dress she owns that she typically wears to attend funerals.
"I have had multiple conversations telling her I really don't want her to wear that dress, but she KEEPS bringing up wearing it!" the bride wrote, adding, "And not in a joking tone either — she is very serious."

But the bride is determined to persuade her mom against the idea.
"Today I had to tell her she's not allowed — I'm not trying to be a bridezilla but …" she continued, noting that her future mother-in-law plans to wear "a very nice cocktail dress so she [her mom] wouldn't even fit into the wedding party."
The bride said she even offered to take her mom out shopping for a new dress "to make a treat of it" — but her mom is still insisting she wants to wear her funeral dress.

Reacting to the post, some Redditors felt it wasn't a big deal and that the bride should let her mom wear whatever she feels most comfortable and confident in.
"If for her it is just a dress she feels gorgeous in and has no negative feelings toward, then you need to move on," one person wrote.
Another shared: "I own 2 nice dresses. They get worn to all events. The black one has been worn to both weddings and funerals. It is the 'classic little black dress.' What's the big deal?"
In response to that comment, someone else pointed out, "If it is known as 'the funeral dress,' it just doesn't feel great for the wedding of your own daughter."
Still, others had a different take on the situation, agreeing with the bride that her mom should wear something else to the wedding.

One commenter told the bride to tell her mom, "I love you. Let's go shopping and find you a dress you look a million bucks in. I want you to shine on my day — you are the mother of the bride!"
