JD Vance called Simone Biles 'weak' for dropping out of the Tokyo Olympics in resurfaced interview

Simone Biles made JD Vance eat his words after the Republican Vice Presidential nominee branded the gymnast 'weak' for pulling out of the Tokyo Olympics. During the rescheduled Games, Biles withdrew after suffering from the 'twisties', a form of mental block which can cause gymnasts to lose their spatial awareness in mid-air. Vance weighed in on the story back in 2021, before he was a senator in Ohio and long before Donald Trump selected him as his running mate for this year's election.

Forty-six seconds was long enough for Angela Carini. Long enough for two right-hands from Imane Khelif, the boxer her friends and family had been telling her wall week to avoid because she 'is a man', to find their mark. Long enough for those punches to detach a chin strap, rock her backwards and leave her blue shorts blood-spattered. Long enough for her to tell her coach that she was done, for her to sink to her knees in the middle of the ring in apparent protest, smash the canvas in despair and burst into floods of tears that continued after she had spoken to reporters and made her way, disconsolately, to the dressing room.

A historic prisoner swap between Russia and the US has begun on a Turkish runway, with Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. marine Paul Whelan set to be dramatically released. The men were let go alongside several other Western citizens, including Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmashevas, as part of a major inmate swap with Moscow, involving 26 prisoners. The exchange took place in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
