The top Republican is pushing back against attacks on President Donald Trump's pick to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation after a top Democrat accused Kash Patel of potentially perjuring himself. Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who is ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the accusation on the Senate floor on Tuesday just days before the committee is set to vote on Patel's nomination. The Illinois lawmaker said credible whistleblowers have disclosed to his staff information indicating that Patel has been personally directing the firing of senior law enforcement officials at the FBI.
