Take-Two Interactive is set to buy developer Gearbox from Embracer, as the studio acknowledges the existence of another Borderlands game.

After being acquired by Embracer Group in 2021, Borderlands creator Gearbox are set to officially part ways with the media company.

Embracer, who recently sold Saber Interactive to reduce the company's debt following a string of acquisitions, has now announced it has sold Gearbox to Take-Two Interactive for $460million (365million). The deal is set to be finalised in the first quarter of Take-Two's 2025 fiscal year, which ends on June 30, 2024.

The deal means Take-Two now owns Gearbox's IP, including Borderlands, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Homeworld, Risk Of Rain, Brothers In Arms, Duke Nukem, and all future projects from the studio. Gearbox is based across three offices in the US and Canada.

Gearbox already has a long-standing relationship with Take-Two, as the company's subsidiary 2K is the publisher for Borderlands.

'Joining forces with Take-Two Interactive and 2K will help Gearbox ascend to our next level,' said Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. 'Take-Two and 2K have demonstrated repeatedly their commitment to our engine of generating creativity, happiness and profit.

'We set the bar for interactive entertainment achieved remarkable results with groundbreaking, record-setting games when we worked together at arm's length as partners. I'm incredibly excited about what we can accomplish now that we're fully aligned as one.'

According to Take-Two, Gearbox is working on six projects which are at various stages of development. These include five sequels, including new instalments in the Borderlands and Homeworld franchises, and 'at least' one new IP.

In the same press release, it's noted that Gearbox is in 'active development' on the next Borderlands game. While this won't be at all surprising for anyone who has kept up with the various leaks, it's the first time the studio has officially acknowledged the existence of another entry.

Pitchford previously teased what's widely assumed to be Borderlands 4, describing it as 'the greatest thing we've ever done'. It's unclear when the sequel will be released but, with the Borderlands movie out in August, it's expected some sort of announcement could happen soon.

Embracer's decision to sell Gearbox is part of the company's 'restructuring programme', which involved laying off 8% of its total workforce. The company's cutbacks has led to the closure of various studios, including Saints Row developer Volition and Free Radical Design.

'Today's announcement marks the result of the final structured divestment process and is an important step in transforming Embracer into the future with notably lower net debt and improved free cash flow,' said Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors. 'Through the transaction, we lower business risk and improve profitability as we transition to becoming a leaner and more focused company.

'After evaluating several options for Gearbox, I am happy that we have reached a solution that is in the best interest of all stakeholders.'

A BBC showrunner has said the end of the BBC is 'on its way' (Picture: Reuters)

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has said the end of the BBC is 'undoubtedly on its way'.

The showrunner, 60, created the series' Queer as Folk, Years and Years, It's a Sin and Nolly.

He also revived Doctor Who in 2005, leading the franchise for five years, during which time he also created the spin-off's Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.

He returned to the series last year, with the first episodes of his second tenure being the 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

Although the series has been broadcast by the BBC since 1963, it was announced in 2022 that the national broadcaster and Disney had come together to deliver new seasons of the show to audiences outside of the UK and Ireland on the streaming platform.

The deal was met with backlash from some fans however Russell has now said the deal to co-produce the series was a necessary move to 'prepare' the show to outlive the BBC.

'Before they (the BBC) approached me, I had already said in various interviews I think Doctor Who would have to become a co-production, there's no way the BBC is going to fund that,' he said on the They Like To Watch podcast.

'You've also got to look in the long term at the end of the BBC, which is somehow, surely, undoubtedly, on its way in some shape or form.

'Is Doctor Who going to die then? No, you've got to prepare for that kind of stuff.'

The series is now being co-produced with Disney Plus (Picture: Disney Plus)

He also referenced the lack of lavish BBC budgets as a reason why the series needed the support of Disney.

'If Disney collapsed tomorrow and we had to go back to making Doctor Who on a normal BBC budget, you know what, we'd all rally round and make it and suddenly the stories would become claustrophobic ghost stories and a lot of people would like that,' he shared.

Doctor Who has aired on the BBC in the UK since 1963 (Picture: James Pardon/BBC Studios)

But he added it would be a 'real shame' if Doctor Who was not available alongside other 'big hitters' like The Mandalorian and Marvel shows.

However, he did caveat his comments by adding that 'all of that is kind of the flim flam on top of the fact that I love it, and it's the only chance you have in television for me to really write in pictures'.

The new series of Doctor Who, starring Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa and former Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson, will begin on May 11, with the first two episodes also being available to stream in the UK on BBC iPlayer from midnight.

However, US fans will be able to watch them from 10pm EDT on Thursday evening, a decision which left some viewers seething over concerns they wouldn't be able to avoid spoilers.

Metro.co.uk has contacted the BBC for comment.

Doctor Who returns on Saturday May 11 to the BBC.

The internet is in awe of Florence Pugh as she seems to have got away with breaking Marvel's number one rule: no leaking secrets and spoilers.

Following in the footsteps of spoiler king Tom Holland, Florence took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video of her next venture – Marvel's Thunderbolts.

'Hey guys, how you doing?' the Dune star began as she exited her trailer – which had helpfully been labelled 'Yelena' – in full costume to the thrill of viewers.

Never before has a cast member given such a bold tour around the usually iron-clad set, with Florence insisting viewers couldn't 'tell anyone' about her 'sneaky' filming.

This is a stark difference from when Tom, who plays Spider-Man, infamously kept landing in hot water with bosses after letting slip little spoilers.

Film expert Ryan Toomey believes this 'lackadaisical' approach to protecting the Marvel Cinematic Universe 'magic' is symptomatic of the slow demise of the franchise.

She even gave a glimpse at footage for the upcoming film (Picture: Florence Pugh/Instagram)

The founder of pop culture website Upbeat Geek told Metro.co.uk: 'Marvel's once hyper-secretive sets and doctored movie trailers to hide spoilers born from an intensive fandom have now been reduced to nothing, with Florence Pugh happily showing up around the set of Thunderbolts in a way we've never seen before.

'The fact Marvel is now so lackadaisical about protecting its "film magic" is such a stark contrast, and I think reeks of desperation as it tries to claw back some of its initial fanfare pre-Infinity War, giving the sneak peeks fans always wanted – but is now far too late.'

Just five years ago, fans raged at any cast member who dared reveal any information about the franchise that could be construed as a spoiler.

Tom even earned himself the nickname 'Spoiler-Man', as the 27-year-old actor dropped information about Peter Parker's future for 'two more films' and revealed the Far From Home title.

He was believed to be heavily sanctioned by Marvel bosses as he frequently joked about getting in trouble and was carefully kept in line during interviews.

Her video gave fans a taste of her costume (Picture: Florence Pugh/Instagram)

'Somebody's going to come and rugby tackle me,' joked Florence in her video, poking fun at this history of spoiler deterrent tactics.

The set tour video gave sneak peeks at already shot footage and set pieces such as a cylindrical lift, bright lights, and grey corridors.

Despite her assertions that she was 'sneaking' to film, the video was clearly approved by Marvel bosses and shared on the franchise's own TikTok.

Ryan explained that for many long-time Avengers fans 'something is now off' despite the star power connected to the brand.

'Fans are bored,' he continued. 'Marvel isn't giving us enough time to get used to new dynamics, plotlines or even charters before moving on to the next, giving us whiplash in a way that is the polar opposite of the carefully crafted movies we saw emerge in the late 2000s.'

His sentiment was echoed in jokes made by fans online, such as user katesteinfelds who said: 'Kind of insane they allowed her to do this at all two years ago she would've been shot on sight just for posting a selfie.'

Another stan account on X, quakesbf, added: 'They must be real scared for this movie if they are letting her post this to create hype'

As she showed off her khaki-green military-style superhero suit, Florence had teased: 'I can show you some things. Sneakily. As long as you don't tell anyone.'

Switching to a whisper, she added: 'I can show you a sneak peek at some of the sets, we're in the studio right now. We're in the studio that we're shooting in on this movie that I can't tell you much about. But look at that!'

No other cast member has been allowed to do this before (Picture: Florence Pugh/Instagram)
Even Tom Holland only gave snippets of information (Picture: Florence Pugh/Instagram)

'That's enough that's it, that's it!' the Oppenheimer actress said as she panned to a computer screen before wrapping up her tour.

While Marvel films are still box office staples, the blockbuster approach has been unable to capture the hype of the original Avengers.

It's easy to forget that the original films were filled with risky castings – Iron Man hinged around Robert Downey Jr who was on the brink of obscurity after addiction struggles.

Now household names, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were both relative unknowns when they landed Captain America and Thor in the mid 2000s.

Marvel is struggling to capture the same hype (Credits: Alamy Stock Photo)

The Avengers was a wildcard that paid off, putting fresh faces at the helm of Marvel Comics' least popular team-up series in well-written and well-made movies.

From humble beginnings, the MCU took over a decade to carefully craft into a behemoth but now executives are banking on the love of Florence to fill seats.

As Ryan concluded: 'Marvel made a glaring error – focusing on pumping out more content as opposed to ensuring that content was good.

'Hopefully, this can be rectified, maybe with a reboot of some of their IPs, but I think Marvel would be wise to give movie fans a break and try to get back to what made films like Iron Man just so good.'

Billie Piper has hit the red carpet to promote her latest project in a head-turning outfit.

The actress, 41, is best known for appearing in series including Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl and I Hate Suzie.

She's now starring in the upcoming Netflix movie Scoop, which is based on the true events leading up to Prince Andrew's explosive 2019 BBC Newsnight interview.

It stars Gillian Anderson as journalist Emily Maitlis, who famously grilled the royal, played by Rufus Sewell, on his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Billie plays Sam McAlister, the producer for the current affairs programme who managed to score the interview, which was later described by one viewer as being less a car crash than 'a plane crashing into an oil tanker, causing a tsunami, triggering a nuclear explosion'.

The film is based on McAlister's own account of what unfolded, which was detailed in her autobiographical book Scoops.

Hitting the red carpet in London on Wednesday night, the stars each stunned in jaw-dropping outfits, with Billie donning a black pinstripe power suit.

Dressed head to toe in Dolce and Gabbana, her outfit came to a whopping total cost of around 4,700.

Her 2350 oversized blazer was styled over a low-cut black top, 1,700, and tailored shorts, 645.

Scoop also stars Keeley Hawes and Gillian Anderson (Picture: Karwai Tang/WireImage)

She was joined at the event by her co-stars, which also include Keeley Hawes, who plays Prince Andrew's private secretary Amanda Thirsk.

Speaking to Netflix's Tudum, McAlister previously said while the interview was 'so significant', it was only '5% of the story'.

'What we do is we take you on the journey to how this all began,' she said.

For Billie, the role allowed her to gain insight into a story that had fascinated her on a personal level.

'It was something I cared about tremendously,' she said.

'When you watch that interview, you think, How did this get onto the screens? How was this signed off on? Who was part of this? Getting this close to a royal? That level of exposure-don't know that I'll ever see anything like it again. In my lifetime, I've never seen an interview like it.

'And there are a number of incredible women behind this moment, and telling their story is a gift as an actor, to be honest.'

Scoop is streaming on Netflix from April 5.

New Photo - Twitch changes its sexual content policy again in 'cat and mouse game'
Twitch changes its sexual content policy again in 'cat and mouse game'
Streamer Morgpie green-screening watching videos on Twitch (Picture: Twitch)

A new trend where streamers broadcast content on their butts and breasts is being banned on Twitch, but fans think it won't matter.

Last year Twitch changed its policy on sexual content to stop a new trend, where streamers would broadcast themselves with deceptive camera angles to appear naked.

It worked for a while, but some streamers found a new way to sexualise their content with the latest meta, which has creators using green screens to broadcast content on their butts and breasts.

The streaming platform is now getting the banhammer ready again, to stop content that 'focuses on intimate body parts for a prolonged period of time,' but fans don't think it will matter.

The latest green screen trend has been going on for almost two weeks and has spread to the extent that Twitch is ready to squash it with a new policy change.

Twitch announced the change in policy in a Twitter post, saying:

'Our Community Guidelines are designed to help make Twitch a welcoming place. Content on Twitch is always evolving, and we want to make sure our rules work as intended and keep up with emerging behaviors.'

'Starting on Friday March 29th, content that focuses on intimate body parts for a prolonged period of time will not be allowed.'

The actual line in Twitch's Terms Of Service reads: 'Content that focuses on clothed intimate body parts such as the buttocks, groin, or breasts for extended periods of time.'

This means Twitch will have amended its policy on sexual content twice just this year, and viewers think the streamers will just find new ways around the rules.

'They will figure out something new anyway. This will be a cat and mouse game for a long time,' said Atmozfears on Reddit.

'Yeah. Define prolonged. 10 seconds? OK, then they'll just refresh the camera every 9 seconds,' Wise Old Can added.

Twitch's rules are often vague and open to interpretation, and some streamers are experts at finding ways around them, which is why the lawfulness of sexual content on the platform seems uncertain.

The trend of broadcasting games on butts and breasts might be coming to an end, but it will be far from the last overly sexual meta on Twitch.

White digital-only Xbox Series X revealed in leaked images
A white version might be out very soon (Picture: Microsoft)

An all-digital Xbox Series X might be released very soon after images of the console appear to have leaked.

Following months of rumours regarding a redesigned Xbox Series X, it seems Microsoft's revised version of the console has made its way into the wild.

Earlier this year, a reliable leaker claimed Microsoft is planning to launch a white digital-only Xbox Series X in the summer. The report said the console would have some upgraded components, including an improved heatsink, but otherwise it would largely remain the same.

Now the same leaker, eXtas1s, has posted images seemingly of the console which they received from an unnamed source.

While the images themselves are bizarrely low-quality, they clearly show a white Xbox Series X without a disc drive. The pictures also show the back of the console, which has the same ports as the original.

According to the eXputer report, the console is expected to retail at a lower price point than the original Xbox Series X due to the absence of a disc drive. In the UK, the Xbox Series X costs 479.99, but it is available for much cheaper elsewhere.

A revamped 'adorably all-digital' version of the Xbox Series X was leaked via internal Microsoft documents last year. The console, codenamed 'Brooklin', was planned for 2024 and boasted more internal storage and a new cylindrical design. Shortly after the leak, Microsoft claimed 'so much has changed' in regards to the outed plans.

Xbox president Sarah Bond recently confirmed the company will share more news about new hardware later this year.

'There's some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we're going to share this holiday, and we're also invested in the next generation roadmap,' Bond said. 'And what we're really focused on there is delivering the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation.'

Microsoft is also rumoured to be developing a Switch-style Xbox handheld device, following several hints from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer.

Seventies rock singer Ann Wilson has wowed fans with her ageless appearance as she prepares to reunite with her band Heart.

The frontwoman of the group, now 73, is gearing up to go on a world tour with Heart, announced earlier this year much to the delight of their supporters.

The band has sold over 35million records, earned four Grammy nominations, and enjoyed success with chart-topping singles including Magic Man, Crazy on You and Barracuda.

Heart also had US Billboard number one singles with These Dream and their utterly iconic cover of Alone in the 1980s.

As well as her long dark hair and flawless complexion giving her a stunning appearance, Ann is also exceptionally well thought of among the group's fans for her powerful vocals.

In comments under one of her most recent Instagram posts, she has been praised for having 'the greatest voice in the history of rock' and being 'a magic woman' and 'true icon'.

'NO ONE has a voice like @annwilson. Her voice is sooooo unique that I could close my eyes, hear her sing and right away I could tell you who it is,' insisted fan Melyssa York.

Fellow supporter @cajunp36 was also floored by how little her appearance had changed, commenting that she was 'ageing naturally'.

'But she doesn't age Looks as young as her early days in music,' he added.

Although their line-up has changed multiple over the years, Ann is a founding member with Heart believed to be the first rock group fronted by a woman alongside guitarist Roger Fisher and bass player Steve Fossen.

Her sister Nancy Wilson, drummer Michael Derosier and Howard Leese were also part of the band during their initial success in the mid-to-late 1970s, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame together as core members in 2013.

After a slump in popularity at the start of the decade, Heart enjoyed a comeback in 1985 with their self-titled eighth studio album, spawning hits like What About Love?, Never and Nothin' At All.

It went on to sell five million copies, with the group eventually splitting in 1998 before sporadic reunions over the 2000s.

In 2016, they released their last album, Beautiful Broken, and in December played their first show in five years for a New Year's Eve event in their hometown of Seattle, Washington.

From April to September this year, Ann and Nancy will be on the road in the US, Canada and Europe for Heart's Royal Flush Tour, alongside current fellow bandmembers Ryan Waters, Ryan Wariner, Paul Moak, Tony Lucido and Sean T. Lane.

Some dates also see them as a support act for fellow music greats Journey and Def Leppard, while their UK dates include special guest Squeeze.

Their UK stops include London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow during July.
