Key Points

  • The actress was married to the CNN founder from 1991 until 2001.

  • Turner announced that he'd been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2018.

Jane Fondais paying tribute to herlate ex-husband Ted Turnerwith a lengthy statement.

"MY IMMEDIATE THOUGHTS ABOUT TED," Fonda began on Wednesday via Instagram, "He swept into my life, a gloriously handsome, deeply romantic, swashbuckling pirate and I’ve never been the same. He needed me. No one had ever let me know they needed me, and this wasn’t your average human being that needed me, this was the creator of CNN, and Turner Classic Movies, who had won the America’s Cup as the world’s greatest sailor. He had a big life, a brilliant mind and a soaring sense of humor. "

The Oscar-winning actress was married to the CNN founder from 1991 until 2001.

"He could also take care of me. That was new as well. To be needed and cared for simultaneously is transformative. Ted Turner helped me believe in myself. He gave me confidence. I think I did the same for him, but that’s what women are raised to do. Men like Ted aren’t supposed to express need and vulnerability. That was Ted’s greatest strength, I believe," she continued.

Fonda said that Turner "taught me more than any other person or school classes" about nature, wildlife, hunting, fishing, business and strategy.

"Ted was supremely strategic. It was likely innate, but he studied the Classics in college, knew about the Peleponesian War inside and out and the strategies used by Alexander the Great and even Genghis Khan. And sailing big boats as he did further honed those strategic talents which he then brought into his businesses to much success. He could see around corners for sure," she wrote. "Next to Katharine Hepburn, Ted was the most competitive person I have ever met and that was fascinating to witness. Whether it was who’d made the most ski runs at the end of the day, to acres of land owned (stewarded is the more fitting word for his relationship to land), who had the most billions, how many countries he’d made love to his prior lover in and could I match that, it was challenging. Ted was challenging, but I’ve always been up for a challenge, and with Ted it was almost always worth it. "

Fonda noted that she loved "Ted with all my heart."

"I see him in heaven now with all the wildlife he helped bring back from extinction – the black footed ferrets, the prairie dogs, Big Horned sheep, Mexican Gray Wolf, the Yellowstone wolf pack, bison, the red cockaded woodpecker and so many more, they’re all gathered at the pearly gates applauding and thanking him for saving their species," she wrote.

She acknowledged Turner's five children. "Five talented, complex kids who I had the privilege of becoming stepmother to," she wrote. "I had four stepmothers growing up and I know how important stepmothers can be, so we all did our best to build an extended, rag tag family, and I love them to this day. If it was complicated to be married to him, think how complicated it was being his child. And they are all doing fine."

Fonda concluded: "Rest in Peace, dearest Ted. You are loved and you will be remembered."

Fonda has spoken fondly of her relationship with Turner in the decades since their split, revealing on an 2023 episode of theConan O’Brien Needs a Friendpodcast that the environmentalist was instrumental in helping her to find and embrace her own sense of humor.

“Spending 10 years with Ted, who is hysterical, oh my God he is funny,” she remarked at the time. “And outrageous. And I saw it’s okay to be outrageous. And that really helped me.”

She went on to compare Turner to a “sieve,” adding, “It just all comes out. But his take on life is just — like Lily [Tomlin’s] — it’s inherently funny.”

The pair also used their voices for good during their marriage, working together to co-found the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential (GCAPP) in 1995. The charity organization works to "improve the overall health and well-being of young people" in the Peach state, per its website.

Speaking at GCAPP's 30th annual EmPower Party and gala event last November, Fonda became emotional as she credited Turner with its continued success.

"It was a very challenging time in Georgia. Had I not been with Ted, this was something, had he not stood by me with his love and support, we never would have survived," she told the crowd, perPEOPLE.

She continued, "Ted’s not here, but he is here in my heart and I know he is here in a lot of our hearts."

Turner Enterprises announced the billionaire entrepreneur’s death in a May 6 statement.

"Ted was an intensely involved and committed leader, intrepid, fearless and always willing to back a hunch and trust his own judgement," CNN CEO Mark Thompson said. "He was and always will be the presiding spirit of CNN. Ted is the giant on whose shoulders we stand, and we will all take a moment today to recognize him and his impact on our lives and the world."

News of Turner's death comes eight years after he revealed in a 2018 interview withGood Morning Americathat he'd been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia.

'The Bear' Announces Final Season Premiere Date

Elle

Spoilers below.

The FX and Hulu comedy-dramaThe Bear, starring Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, made a welcome return last June, but its intimate finale left fans spinning witha big question: Is Carmy leaving his restaurant, and if so, can it survive without him? And even if the restaurantcanmanage without its namesake chef, willThe Bear,as a series, continue? Luckily, we finally have an answer to at least one of those questions.

Here’s what we know about the future ofThe Bearso far.

Will there be a season 5 ofThe Bear?

Yes, chef. FX announced in July 2025 that the hit series will return for a fifth season, set for 2026.

“The Bearcontinues to be a fan favorite worldwide and their response to this season—as seen through incredibly high viewership—has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons,” FX Chairman John Landgraf said in a statement. “Year-in and year-out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast and crew makeThe Bearone of the best shows on television, and we are excited that they will continue to tell this magnificent story.”

Season 5 will also be the show’s last, according toThe Bearactress Jamie Lee Curtis, who dropped the news during a March 2026 interview withAccess Hollywood. “Everybody’s confirmed the show is ending,” she said. “I don’t understand why that’s such a [big deal]…unless I’m gonna get a call from all the people saying, ‘You just told [everyone].’

In November 2025, White confirmed that the show was originally set to end with season 4. “The fourth season was going to be the last,” he revealed on an episode ofThe Hollywood Reporter’sAwards Chatterpodcast. “Chris [Storer] called me on Christmas Eve last year and was like, ‘We’re gonna do some more.’ And, I don’t know, that could happen again around this holiday time. There’s no plans for it to be the last. There’s no plans right now for us to do more. I think it’s just all dependent on what Chris wants to do. But if it was up to me? I just feel so lucky to read Chris’ words, and also to work with these actors who’ve become some of my best friends, so I’d do it for a very long time.”

When willThe Bearseason 5 be released?

FX confirmed that the final season ofThe Bearwill air on June 25, 2026 at 9 P.M. ET / 6 P.M. PT on FX and Hulu.

All eight episodes will begin streaming on Hulu at once. On FX, the first two episodes will air on the premiere date, followed by one new episode airing weekly.

A special flashback episode, in which Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) take a work trip to Gary, Indiana, arrived on May 5.

What will season 5 ofThe Bearbe about?

Season 4 ends with Carmy (White) announcing he is making exit plans: He wants to leave The Bear behind once things have stabilized behind the scenes. He tells Sydney (Edebiri) that cooking doesn’t feel like his passion anymore, making her the de facto leader of the restaurant team. She proposes that Richie (Moss-Bachrach) and Carmy’s sister, Natalie (Abby Elliott), join Sydney as partners in The Bear.

Carmy also reveals he attended his late brother’s funeral, but he couldn’t force himself to go inside, adding to the story of their shared grief. Natalie, Richie, and Carmy share a cathartic moment of understanding.

The official logline for season 5 arrived on May 6, 2026. It reads: “The fifth and final season of FX’sThe Bearpicks up the morning after Sydney (Edebiri), Richie and Natalie ‘Sugar’ (Elliott) discover that Carmy (White) has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them. With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant ‘perfect’ might not be the food, but the people.”

Who is in the cast?

On May 6, FX confirmed that Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson, with Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis in recurring roles in addition to White, Elliot, Edibiri, and Moss-Bachrach. But we’ll have to see whether FX adds any new cast members. Watch this space for more news as it arrives.

WillThe Bearend with season 5?

Sadly, yes. After Curtis’s remarks fueled speculation, FX confirmed that the fifth season ofThe Bearwill indeed be the show’s last.

Curtis previously toldAccess Hollywood, “I think everybody [in the cast] understood that it was the last season of the show.”

White also recently addressed questions about how longThe Bearwould realistically continue. In a January 2026 interview withDeadline, White said he could see himself staying with the show for “a long time.” However, the actor also emphasized, “I know it’s hard to maintain the continuity and the level of storytelling when you go for that long. But it’s difficult. I love that cast so much...I love Carmy so much. I could do it for a long time, but I don’t know how much longer we’ll do it for.”

Sigourney Weaver spills on her 'authentic' 'Star Wars' debut – Exclusive

Sigourney Weavermay be new to the galaxy far, far away, but when it comes to “Star Wars,” she goes back to the beginning.

USA TODAY

Weaver vividly recalls going to seeGeorge Lucas’ film at New York City’s famed Ziegfield Theatre during the original 1977 run, an “awesome” experience being transported to a fantastical landscape and watching fellow up-and-comersMark Hamill,Carrie FisherandHarrison Fordin the movie that changed their lives.

“I was looking at three lucky actors who'd made it to the big time and were in this glorious thing. who were a little older than I was or the same age,” Weaver says. “They just looked like they'd made it and they were very comfortable in it, and isn't it cool? I hope I get that lucky someday to be in a movie that has people crowded into a theater all cheering for it.”

Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver, right) has a job for the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and his adorable apprentice in the "Star Wars" adventure "The Mandalorian and Grogu."

She did, of course, going on to star in the iconic “Alien,” “Ghostbusters” and “Avatar” franchises. And at 76, Weaver is making a high-profile debut playing Colonel Ward – who is from the same generation as Fisher’s Princess Leia – in“The Mandalorian and Grogu”(in theaters May 22), the first "Star Wars" movie since 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker."

Director Jon Favreau’s new film continues the adventures of the armored warrior Mando (Pedro Pascal) and his adorable apprentice from the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” Colonel Ward is a fighter and pilot from the same Rebellion that took down the Empire in the first “Star Wars” trilogy, and she's now stationed in the outer rim of the galaxy. Her assignment is to track down and capture various Imperial baddies still running around who threaten to ignite another war with the New Republic.

"I have so much respect for women in the armed services, their grace under pressure, their ability to make good judgments and follow their instincts and intuitions, and be very good commanders," Weaver says. "I've always wanted to play someone like that." And Favreau adds that Ward is "a force to be reckoned with."

Ward tasks the extremely capable Mando with an important mission, though meeting little Grogu is “slightly worrying” for her character, Weaver says. “He seems like you could lure him away from his job if you had the right snack. (But) you find out what Grogu is capable of, and it's incredible.”

Sigourney Weaver makes her "Star Wars" debut, in a X-wing jumpsuit no less, as Colonel Ward in "The Mandalorian and Grogu."

In the movie, Weaver gets decked out in an X-wing fighter jumpsuit – the legendary orange number worn by Hamill back in the day – and gets to pilot a starship. “I wasn't literally in outer space flying but it was, for me, as close to flying it as I will ever get. It really made me laugh,” she says, teasing that Ward’s X-wing squadron in the film has a surprise “that will make people happy. A little gift from the past.”

The first time Favreau saw the actress in the X-wing outfit, "she felt immediately authentic to 'Star Wars,' " he says. "And even though she’d never been part of this franchise, her legacy as a science-fiction hero brought an authenticity to the role immediately."

Weaver also got a kick out of working alongside the Grogu puppet. “I’m such a fan of having the real character in front of you. I'm not a good enough actor to pretend,” Weaver says. “Even though I was aware that it took five puppeteers to make Grogu do what he did, I totally believed in Grogy. He was sitting at the table with me, trying to steal my food.”

While the movie features “big, huge scenes and creatures and contraptions,” Weaver appreciates that there’s “a much more intimate story about Mando and Grogu, who take care of each other in the most charming and unpredictable way.” It’s a far cry from the “Alien” universe, “where the two species did not get along and it was much more of a terrorizing experience,” says the erstwhile Ellen Ripley.

Weaver has always felt that “Star Wars” reflected life on our planet, and it goes back to that first time seeing it on a big screen nearly 50 years ago.

“Yes, some of them are hostile, but the majority of people in these different galaxies and worlds are all getting along together really well," she says. "That really impressed me because I thought this is a very hopeful vision of what our world can become.

"Even though I've made all these ‘Alien’ pictures where we are not getting along with the alien, the reality of the opposite is also true. Different beings from different worlds can live together harmoniously, can be friends, can work together, can save each other. All of that I love, and I continue to love it in this movie.”
