American novelist Cormac McCarthy's secret underage muse has been revealed, more than a year after his death from prostate cancer. The writer, whose novels include The Passenger and Stella Maris, was not known for the female characters in his westerns. But many of his leading men, were inspired by a single woman, Augusta Britt, who first met the author in 1976 when she was just 16 years old and he was 42, Vanity Fair reports.
